ANZAC - 100th year tribute

We started the term by honouring the memory of our ANZACs with a whole school inquiry. Each grade contributed an ANZAC display for a letter of the alphabet (or two in some cases)...
'M' for Medals

'P' for Poppies

Here are our efforts in Grade 1...

1M - 'N' for Nurses
1R - 'U' for Uniforms

1B - 'W' for War Memorials

We also had some families share their precious war memorabilia with us...

Did you manage to attend a dawn service?

Good Bye, Jenny!

Friday 24th April was Jenny's last day at OHSC after ten years of wonderful work with the children at Lara PS. We know that she has loved working with them. Jenny, thanks for recording assembly items when parents couldn't be there, for picking up kids from camp, for the fun program you offer, for promoting our school, and for going above and beyond over and over again for the children in your care. Thank you, good bye and good luck with whatever the future holds!

Reading Strategies

We have been working our way through our Reading Keys. We have been focussing on what to do when we reach a tricky word. Here is a range of strategies that we encourage children to use when they are 'stuck'.

ANZAC A-Z

With the whole nation celebrating the ANZAC Centenary, Lara PS is engaged in a whole school ANZAC inquiry. Each grade throughout the school has created a window display for our ANZAC A-Z. 1M has made an 'N for Nurse' display, 1B a 'W for War Memorials' display and 1R a 'U for Uniform' display.
Next week we will tour the school looking at each grade's letter display around the school and finding out information about our history, particularly to do with the ANZACs.
We have also gone on a local walk to visit our own war memorials here in Lara, and we extend warm thanks to those parents who joined us.
Your child may also have mentioned that they are able to purchase ANZAC fundraising items - ranging in price from $1-$4.
Lest we forget.

Congratulations Miss McCoy!

It's official! Miss McCoy is a real teacher! Of course, we've known it all along, as she's doing such a brilliant job in her classroom.

Here's a photo of Miss McCoy and her proud parents taken at her recent graduation ceremony...

Congratulations from us all, Miss McCoy!
