We are so lucky to have knowledgeable parents who are happy to give up their time to share with our children. But I'm not going to be the one to tell you all about it when Markus from 1B can do it so well!

Nurse Visit
Yesterday Nurse Trudy came to visit! She showed us pictures of the hospital and medical equipment, such as blood pressure tester, gown, cap, sling, *straw, gloves, torch, tweezers, bandages, stethoscope and thermometer. She also showed us photos of people and mascots such as Geelong footy players, clown doctors, Captain Starlight and a bear mascot!
She taught us about operations and surgeons that work at the hospital. She also taught us about dieticians that tell people what they should eat, and a *type of person that helps people with weak hands, legs, arms, feet and any other part like that!
*tube
*physiotherapist
After Nurse Trudy's presentation we had a chance to play with the equipment. Thank you, Nurse Trudy, for teaching us that, even though you are not usually in hospital unless you are sick or hurt, the people in hospitals are kind and lovely, and fun things happen there.

Life Ed
This week the children have been to the Life Ed van. It really complemented our 'Be a Safe and Healthy Me' inquiry.
We helped Harold to pack for a picnic. We took an asthma puffer, yoghurt, apple, water, sandwich, a hat and a first aid kit. We left the fizzy drink, chocolate and Cheezels behind.
We went on a journey with Harold and were taught many healthy messages.
This model showed us a great example of the parts inside our body that we've been investigating.
We placed the brain, lungs, heart, stomach and intestines inside a body outline.
We talked about safety in public places. We know not to touch sharp or dangerous things and to tell an adult about them immediately.
But, of course, the best part of Life Ed was meeting Harold.
Whole School Art Show
Thank you, Mrs Hartshorne, for turning our school into an art gallery! We really enjoyed seeing the circus-themed art work that the children have been working so hard on producing in art. Lots of families bought their child's art work and they'll now be decorating homes. What wonderful keepsakes!
Art work is still available for sale, so if you missed out,
don't panic!
Firefighter Wayne
Firefighter Wayne taught us about smoke alarms. Every home must have them.
We showed our best listening manners.
Miss McCoy and Tyler dressed up as firefighters. The firefighters' uniforms protect them entirely from the dangers of fire and smoke.
If you catch on fire, don't panic and run, because that will make the fire worse.
STOP, DROP and ROLL!
If you are caught in a smoky room,
GET DOWN LOW AND GO, GO, GO!
The freshest air is near the floor, so crawl under smoke.
Here's what Madeleine from 1M had to say about the visit...
4-8-2015
Yesterday afternoon Wayne Aylmer came and taught all the grade 1s about fire safety. He read us a book about good fires and bad fires. A good fire is a BBQ, candles and a fire at home. A bad fire is a house fire, home or a bush fire. If you did have a fire at home, you get down low and go, go, go. If your clothes catch on fire you stop, drop and roll. That's what happened yesterday.
