Grade P-2 Tabloid Sports Day

Thanks to Mrs Grills for organising a Tabloid Sports Day for our P-2s on Thursday, September 17. What a wonderful way to end the term! The teachers relaxed while the wonderful House Captains and other LG students led the groups through the activities. What a wonderful leadership experience for our senior students, and what great models they were for our little people (who may be running their own groups in a few short years!). The children showed great qualities of being good sports - helping, cheering for and supporting each other. We had some children who overcame some personal challenges (e.g. climbing the chain net) which was fabulous. We also had many parents, grandparents, relatives and friends who looked on proudly. Even better, it fitted in with our Grade 1 inquiry 'Be a Safe and Healthy Me'. What a way to finish off our term and our inquiry!

Arrays

Did you know that arrays are wonderful ways for our grade ones to begin to develop an understanding of multiplication (groups of) and division (shared between or how many)? Well, they are!

For example, the first slide of cute kittens shows 3 groups of 4 make 12, and 4 groups of 3 make 12. It also shows that 12 how many 3s are 4, and 12 how many 4s are 3.

There are 36 slides in all - can you tell 'groups of' and 'how many' stories from the pictures?

Practise some subitising over the holidays.

You could even make your own subitising slideshow.

Now try this one for some extra challenges:

Visit to Coles

We love integrating our learning within our community, so we headed off on a walk (walking is healthy!) to Coles to meet Deb and Tommy. Deb showed us around the healthy produce section of the supermarket. We saw fruit, vegies, dairy, meat and bread. We did not go down the lolly aisle!

If we could think of the healthy food that started with the first letter of our name, Deb gave us a sticker sheet.

We were then able to taste some fruits that we may not have tried before like fresh pineapple, brown pears and grapefruit. Thanks for having us, Coles Lara!

Vic Beach Excursion

On Tuesday, September 8, we hopped on two buses and headed off to Vic Beach in South Geelong. There we met our instructors who took us through three fun rotations. We played sand games, practised beach volleyball skills and indoor soccer skills. We even had a chance to play a game of beach volleyball and indoor soccer.

Thanks to the many parents, who either came with us or met us there, for joining in and having fun with the children.

Congratulations to our grade ones for being good sports and having a go, all without losing a single sock!

We then went to Rippleside Park to eat our lunch and run, climb, slide, hang, swing, jump, balance and just have a play.

Our excursion fitted in with our inquiry 'Be a Safe and Healthy Me' and we found out how much fun it is to be active. Keep it up, kids!
