PLEASE DO NOT LITTER!

The children in 1B are working hard to remind everybody not to drop rubbish. This week they found the drains around the school and wrote about drains and rubbish...

If you drop rubbish it will go down a drain. Sadie

We should not drop rubbish because it can go down a drain and make the river sick and the animals can die. Gus

If you drop rubbish it can go down in the drain. Alyza

The rubbish in the world could hurt the water because it makes it sick and then it kills the animals. Noah

If you drop rubbish it might go down a drain. Jazzy

You should not drop rubbish because it might hurt the animals. They might think it is food and they eat it and they might die. Jasmine

No rubbish can be dropped in drains, or other things like paint, soap and dead leaves off trees. It can make animals sick if it goes into a river. Daisy

Do not drop rubbish. Leo

Rubbish can make animals sick. You should wash your car on grass. Animals can die from rubbish because they think it is food. Lucy

If you drop rubbish it might go down a drain and it will go down a pipe and it will go to the ocean. The animals will eat it. Ella

If you drop rubbish dogs will get sick and birds. All animals could get sick. Markus

1B went to look for some drains. When 1B came back we went on Google Images and looked up rubbish in rivers and rubbish at the beach. Annelise

If you drop rubbish it will go down a drain. Will

We should not drop rubbish. When we wash our cars the soap could have chemicals. When the animals drink the chemical-ish water they could die and it could make the rivers sick. I just wish that will never happen. Giaan

People don't like dirty water. Animals can get sick and die. Cannon

The rubbish is bad for the water. It will go down the drain and make the animals sick but we don't want that to happen because animals are nature. Tyler

There are lots of drains in Lara which all lead to the ocean or rivers. If you drop your rubbish, it can go down a drain and that's where it ends up. Is that what we want? No!

Here are some drains in Lara. Do you have any drains in your street?

The Ugly Duckling

Do you remember earlier in the year when Lara Secondary College drama students came to visit us to talk with us about the story of 'The Ugly Duckling'?

Well, they have finally written, rehearsed and performed a wonderful show of 'The Ugly Duckling' and it was well worth the wait! We loved it! Great story, great setting, great props, great acting, great dancing, great lighting, great music, great costumes, all equal great fun! See for yourself...
Hans Christian Andersen told us the story.
Mother Duck's cute, yellow ducklings hatched. But who is that at the front?
The poor ugly duckling ran away because his brothers and sisters were unkind to him.
He ended up in a cage before he was released by a rooster and a cat.
In Spring, the Ugly Duckling checked his reflection in the stream
and discovered that he had become a beautiful swan.

We danced with the high school kids to celebrate!
We applauded the whole cast.

Walkathon

Well, it was a drizzly old day, but nothing dampens the spirit of the grade ones at Lara Primary School!

Thanks to the generous support of sponsors, we raised over $4,500.

Setting off on a damp day...

...but nothing dampens our spirit!

Beware the prickly pear!

The horses and ponies joined in with some exercise of their own!
An icy-pole always goes down well!
We managed to stay dry, but our shoes and socks got wet...

...so it was tootsy-toes everywhere you looked when we got back to school.
It was more like a Rainathon! When we got back we got an icypole. Baby Hadlee went on the walk with Sheridan. Hadlee wasn't happy. When we got back we also had to take our shoes and socks off and Mrs Bennett took a picture of our toes. She even changed her whiteboard picture to us in a circle with our bare toes in the middle. Sustainability Inquiry

1M's Gardening Inquiry is in full swing. Today they planted some plants to make our garden beautiful. The timing was perfect - they planted in the dry and then the rain came! Let's hope we have a grade full of green thumbs. Nice work Miss McCoy, Trevor  and 1M!
