Clever Kids' Cool Calcium Cafe

1B has been working so hard learning about bones this week, that Mrs Bennett decided to treat them with a visit to the Clever Kids' Cool Calcium Cafe. Children wrote all of the information they know about bones while Mrs Bennett, Mrs Spalding and Fiona delivered milkshakes, yoghurt and cheese on toast. This triple helping of calcium was followed at recess with some Vitamin D filled sunshine, and after recess with PE (did you know that exercise is great for your bones?). What a great day for our happy, healthy bones!

Here are some photos of the fun, and also the children's writing.

Calcium is in cheese, milk, fish and yoghurt. The only thing that’s not food but is good for bones is exercise and sunshine.
Gus

Calcium is in milk, eggs and yoghurt and it’s good for your bones. Vitamin D is good for your bones. Sunshine is also good for your bones. Babies have more bones than us. Babies have more than 270 bones, we have 206. A patella is a bone, and ribcages are bones too.  Your hand has 26 bones, your foot has 27 bones, your neck has 7 bones.

Bones are very strong, even stronger than the same amount of steel, because of calcium. Bones have two types of names - scientific names like cranium, scapula and phalanges, and just normal names like skull, shoulder blades and finger bones.

Milk and sunshine are good for your bones. The rib cage covers the lungs and heart. Babies have more bones than an older person. Eating yoghurt can make your bones healthier. Patella sounds like ‘pat-Ella, but it is really your knee bone!

Lucy

You need calcium (cheese, milk, yoghurt and fish) for your bones. The stuff inside your bones is marrow. That is where blood is made.

100 Days of School!

After diligently counting each day at school throughout the year, the Grade 1s were so excited when we finally reached 100 days on Thursday, July 23rd!

We celebrated this special day by visiting each Grade 1 teacher and completing fun activities with them.

In Miss Rankin's room we made fairy bread with 100s and 1000s...

In Miss McCoy's room we made 100 Day glasses and hats...

In Mrs Bennett's room we made Fruit Loop necklaces with 100 Fruit Loops at each table.
